Powers: For the most part, unknown. He can remove his eye to convey information he has directly witnessed, and has not yet released his zanpakutou. However, he had no trouble deflecting an attack made by Urahara Kisuke’s zanpakutou.


Bio: Ulquoirra is one of the first Arrancar we are officially introduced to as such. Though others had made brief appearances in the shadows from very early chapters, Ulquiorra is the first to be labeled specifically as an Arrancar.

Ulquoirra’s appearance is defined by the portion of mask that he possesses, which covers his half his head and trails down the back of his neck with what look like vertebrae. He has very large, green eyes with black lines down his cheeks. When he makes his report to Aizen after his reconnaissance mission with Yami, it is revealed that Ulquiorra can remove at least one of his eyes in order to convey information. He wears what appears to be the standard uniform of the Arrancar: a white, modified version of the standard shinigami robes. The main difference between the two uniforms is that the shirt portion is much tighter and appears to zip up instead of being a loose robe-like shirt. It resembles Ichigo’s Bankai outfit in some ways, but is not identical. The color reversal is reminiscent of the way Ichigo’s inner hollow (Shirosaki, Hichigo, Wichigo, Kisaroku, etc.) is dressed. Ulquiorra’s hollow hole is located in his neck.

Ulquoirra first encounters Chad and Orihime, and notices that Orihime’s powers are very unique as soon as she begins to use them on Chad. He makes no move to fight Ichigo when he arrives, and lets Yami fight. He only takes action when Urahara uses an attack from his zanpakutou Benihime on Yami. He deflects the attack with ease, incapacitates his comrade, and they both retreat to Hueco Mundo.

Though little has been seen of Ulquiorra’s power, it can be assumed that he is one of the most powerful of the Arrancar. He is very calm and unemotional in his actions, and displays good judgement when it comes to his self-preservation. When Aizen questions him on why he didn’t kill Ichigo, his reply is that Ichigo didn’t seem like a big enough threat to need to kill him.
